Most Vic Turn-key systems come with two types of keys:
1. The acquisition license, which is located inside the PC and enables Vic-Snap (possibly Vic-Gauge, if purchased), Vic-2D, and Vic-3D (if purchased).
2. The post processing dongle (sometimes more than one post processing dongles are purchased), which is a removable USB dongle and runs only Vic 2D/3D. This may be be used on any PC, but do not use the post processing dongle in the acquisition PC that came with the system, as multiple licenses present will cause conflicts.
Acquisition License
This is your software seat and has all of the software you have purchased, inclusive of Vic-Snap and/or Vic-Gauge.
For typical systems, it is very important to note that this software seat is licensed on a removable USB dongle that is INSIDE THE PC. This means that if the PC is dated and you need to update PC's then it is very easy to open the PC, find the dongle and put it in a new PC. This also means that IF THE PC IS DISCARDED WITHOUT REMOVING THE DONGLE INSIDE, THEN YOUR SOFTWARE SEAT HAS ALSO BEEN DISCARDED. Since the key is a physical key and there is no way to inactivate the key remotely, we cannot issue a new license if the key is discarded or lost.
Post Processing License
Similar to the acquisition dongle, this is a physical USB key which cannot be remotely inactivated. While the post processing license is a fraction of the cost of the acquisition key, it the dongle is lost or discarded then it will still cost thousands of dollars to replace. It is suggested to put a "Please Return to" tag on the dongle and include all contact information. Damaged or corrupt keys may be returned to Correlated Solutions for replacement.
This dongle key enables the post processing software to be used on any PC. The USB dongle must be plugged in, in order to run our software. You can install our software on any PC. You can do this by installing the software from the software disc that came with the system, or obtaining the software online. The most current versions of our software are here:

The post processing dongles do not have the acquisition software (Vic-Snap) on them. They enable Vic-2D and Vic-3D (if it's a 3D system), as well as any other post processing programs and modules that have been purchased (Vic-Volume, Stereo-Microscope, etc.)
Trouble with Licensing
Dongle Drivers
If your key isn't working, you'll see a 12-digit PC-Specific Code. The software key ends with "e4" and the hardware key ends with "ef." If you have your dongle plugged in and are still being prompted for a license, the first thing to check is that you are being prompted with a hardware keycode that ends in "ef." If you are not given the hardware key code when the dongle is plugged in, this means the dongle isn't recognized and you probably need the hasp drivers, which are here:

If you still can't run the software and you can't see a hardware key code, this means that your dongle is likely corrupt. Do not discard this key. You will have to mail it back in order to receive a replacement. For instructions for the dongle replacement, please email support@correlatedsolutions.com and let us know that you installed the hasp drivers and still can't see a hardware "-ef" code in the License Key Installation dialog. Software Versions
If the dongle is recognized by the PC (you see a hardware key code ending in "ef"), but you still can't run the software, check to see if you should be keyed for that software version. For newer versions of our software, you can click on "current keys" within the License Key Installation dialog to check to see what you are currently keyed for. You can also check your original PO to see what you should be keyed for as well as checking to see when the last software update period was. Note that typical systems come with one year of software upgrades and technical support. Many customers purchase longer upgrade and support periods, which is recommended. Software upgrades and support packages have likely been purchased after the initial sale of the system. This means that you are entitled to any software upgrades (for the software package purchased) that were released within a year from your last upgrades purchase (maybe more, depending on the support/upgrades contract). Some purchase several years of software upgrades and support, which is recommended so that you can stay current on upgrades and well as technical support. Before running the current software, check to see if it's something that has been purchased, or if you should be running an prior version of the software.
Update the Dongle with the Key File
If you have the .txt or .key file that keyed the dongle (if it was upgraded at some point, we would have emailed your that file), you can try reinstalling the key through the specific build of the software that you are trying to run. Sometimes that will fix the problem.

Software Licensing
In very rare instances PC's are keyed, rather than through a dongle. In this case, you will not see a hardware key code ending in "ef." The PC Software key code ends in "e4." Prior to 2006, all systems were keyed this way. If you need to transfer a PC license over, you will need to mail the PC to Correlated Solutions to deactivate the key.
